LDT 502 WOL - Instructional Design Project Reflection Mini-Paper
Did we create a rich, thoughtful learning experience for our stakeholders?
Throughout this course, my team and I developed instructional materials that assisted target learners with the development of podcasting. Reflecting on the process, it was difficult for me to transfer my knowledge of pedagogy and learning design in the secondary education arena to that of a constituency of professional learners. Creating the Task Analysis was the most rewarding part of the process: I appreciated the ability to question the stakeholders, gather data to inform the process of creating an appropriate learning environment, and follow-up with the procedural elements of the LMS. The act of writing the mock-up of instructional materials was an excellent tool to fine-tune my abilities to create an instructional model that helped the Skaro University educators hone their podcasting skills. I do believe that following my team’s instructional model helped the learners achieve their goals: introducing multiple elements of instructional design (including multimedia experiences and additional technological support) afforded the opportunity for learners to engage in a rich and satisfactory learning experience.
The Design and Development of Instruction Detailed Design process was a bit intimidating to me. I am accustomed to designing curriculum and instructional tools, but working with other students to create a formative plan of instruction that met our learning community’s goals proved to be challenging. Coming from different backgrounds with different experiences and expertise: my team found challenges in creating a fluid and organic document. How do we decide how much detail to include? Is there such a thing as being too rigid and not allowing for spontaneous learning opportunities in a design plan? Should we include in our design space for our learners to claim ownership of their learning? I find in my instructional design plans that there does need to be room for spontaneity and opportunity to move away from the plan. I appreciate my team’s work throughout this course. I learned a great deal about the process of creating a successful and informative podcast: which I believe means our learning design plan achieved its goal.
